アプリというと、BtoC、つまり一般ユーザが利用するゲームやSNSなどのアプリを想像するかもしれませんが、今回は、業務系アプリを開発する場合、かつ開発を外部委託する場合を前提として説明しています。
今回は、14番目のステップ「データ移行」です。
基本的に、前ステップの移行計画がしっかりとできていれば何ら問題がない。
と、思いたいところですが、計画通りにいかないのが世の常であるように、アプリ開発も計画通りにはいかないものです。
計画通りにいかないときに、どう対応するかが腕の見せ所。その位の気持ちをもって進めて頂きたいと思います。
14.データ移行
前述のとおり、計画どおりに進めば何も言うことはないものの計画通りに進まないことは多々あります。
では、どんなことがあるのか？
ありがちなのは、思っていた通りのデータではなかったということです。
例えば、顧客データ
既存の顧客データが
会社名、住所、部署名、役職、名前、カナ、電話番号だったとします。
新システムでも同じ項目を管理対象とし、名前を必須項目としていたとします。
普通に考えれば、名前は必ずあるはず。そして、ある程度目視した範囲でもしっかりあるようだった。
しかし、データ移行をして分かったこと。
名前の一部に、「ご担当者さま」という表記があるという事実。
その顧客データを作る際、何らかのリストから会社名は集めたのだが、担当者名が分からないことがあった。その際に名前を暫定的に「ご担当者さま」と設定しておいたというケースです。
あるいは、それすらも設定せず名前が空白だったり「－」だったデータがあったということもありました。
数百件程度のデータであれば目視もできたでしょう。しかし、数十万件、数百万件のデータは目で追うには無理があります。
また、アプリ開発会社が過去にそのような経験があり、知識としてそのようなことがあり得るということが分かっていたならば、移行計画において、名前の正当性チェックを行うなどの対処ができますが、そこのスキルがないとできません。そして、移行実施の段階になって、慌ててしまうのです。
とりわけ、データ量が多い場合には想定外のことが起きやすいので、移行計画を入念に行わなければならないですが、それでも問題が起こるときはありますから、素早く適切な対応が求められます。
アプリ開発会社選定の際に、データ移行についての考え方、実績についてヒアリングするというのも、その会社のノウハウを判断するいい材料になりますので、気に留めておいてはいかがでしょうか。
